Mission
The goal of the project is two-fold. On the one hand, Medical Student Electives aims to provide an interesting, engaging and most importantly, genuine elective placement for medical students and professionals. On the other hand, it generates a stable and long-term source of funding for the health projects who host the electives.
MSE has certainly fulfilled its mission so far. Students who have completed the elective unanimously agree that the placement far exceeded their expectations. The opportunity to spend a month immersed in rural Indian life is life-changing and unique.
The funding generated by the electives has had a huge impact on the financial stability of ASHWINI. Where the organisation previously relied on uncertain grant applications, they now have a constant and predictable source of income. Income from MSE has helped to fund the community insurance project, equipment for the hospital, and many other aspects of their vital work.
